A MAJOR motorway has been shut after a lorry crashed into a bridge with drivers facing rush hour delays.

Two lanes of four are closed on the M25 between J9 Leatherhead and J10 Guildford following the incident.

A HGV struck the nearside barrier inbetween the junctions, said National Highways.

Surrey Fire are currently in charge of the scene.

It is not currently known whether there were any injuries to motorists.

Two miles of congestion have been reported in the area around the lane closures.

There are currently delays of up to an hour against expected traffic, according to Traffic England.

Motorway camera images are showing heavy traffic on the route.

The delays have sparked travel chaos this morning with rush-hour underway.

National Highways have since urged motorists to plan ahead with their journeys.

Drivers have been warned to avoid the route where possible.

Normal traffic conditions are expected to resume between 11:30 and 11:45, said Traffic England.
