A MAJOR UK motorway has ground to a halt in the wake of a horror traffic collision as fire crews rush to the scene.
The M1 southbound between junction 13, , and junction 12 is currently partially closed.
Half of the four lanes have been shut as emergency crews work to deal with the chaotic scene.
There are currently delays of up to an hour with fire crews at the site of the crash.
As much as 8 miles of traffic has already built up along the route on the approach to the scene.

National Highways said: βOn the M1 southbound between J13 Milton Keynes and J12, the 2 outside lanes (of 4 lanes) are closed due to a collision.
β Fire and Rescue are at the scene.
βDelays of 60 minutes on the approach, 6 miles of congestion on the approach.β
The same route was closed overnight for emergency resurfacing works following a three-vehicle collision on Tuesday.
The M1 northbound was shut between junction 14, Milton Keynes, and junction 15, Northampton, after two lorries and a van were involved in a horror smash on the road.
In the wake of the crash on Tuesday a large spillage contaminated three lanes and caused significant damage to the road surface, National Highways said.
A full overnight closure was put in place so that repairs could be carried out safely.
