Though he averaged an astonishing 108.66 across the 11 legs, there were moments he reacted to spectators who were targeting him.

For example two arrows at double tops missed their target when someone in the Nottingham Arena started whistling in an attempt to put him off.

It clearly irked the two-time world darts champion and after he nailed a key checkout in the contest, he waved his arms up and down in response.

Whistling is something that is hard to police and prevent and it can really wind up the players and impact their throw.

Speaking on Sky Sports after that win, Littler explained that he has reached a stage of his career now where he can give it back to the punters and still succeed.

The world No1 said: “From last year, maybe two years, it was very difficult.

“But yeah, I showed there that I can give it back to the fans.

“Go on and win games and forget about it.

“At one point I thought it was going to ruin the game, it was an incredible game, but I am just glad I got the job done.”

Littler tried to wind up the crowd again when he held up fingers to take the mickey out of ’s to Danish side Midtjylland in the first leg of the Europa League last 16.

At least there was no repeat of the whistling drama as Littler was defeated 6-5 by Luke Humphries in the semi-finals.

Humphries, 31, progressed with his fourth match dart as he took out a 128 checkout.

It is the first win by Cool Hand Luke over his younger rival since the 2025 Prem final at London’s O2 Arena.

It means Littler can now pack his suitcase and prepare to head over to Cheltenham Festival for a third day of watching National Hunt racing.

Littler is keen to watch the Gold Cup with girlfriend Faith on Friday, which is the pinnacle race of the four-day meeting.
