, 18, delivered one scorching finish with two tops and admitted he hopes for a cooler stage temperature on Sunday.

He said: “It felt pretty hot. As soon as I stepped on the first step I was like ‘wow this is hot’.

“I started off really well. As the game went on I started to drop a bit, going below the treble.

“I thought was going to get into it. But I’m just glad to get over the line.

“Last year was unreal. I went 110, 116, 110 (averages) and then I lost to Luke (Humphries). But I felt pretty good.

Littler now faces Gian Van Veen in the third round and added: “We always have a brilliant game, I think we’re both playing our best at the minute.

“But for myself it’s just another game and hopefully it’s not too hot!”

He said: “He gave me so many chances, it felt like he gifted me the game.

“Not great, I didn’t play good, not used to them performances to be honest, but they seem to be happening a lot more often.”
