LIVERPOOL goalkeeper Rafaela Borggrafe has been issued a six-match ban after the FA found she used discriminatory language during a pre-season training camp.

The FA began investigating the allegation last Autumn after being referred to by the Merseyside team.

It was reported that Borggrafe, 25, made a racist comment while the Reds prepared for a squad photograph.

She later accepted a six-game ban and was ordered by the FA to enrol on an education program.

The goalkeeper has so far served five of the six games, with the last to come this weekend in the FA Cup against London Bees.

She will be available for selection from next week.

Liverpool head coach Gareth Taylor confirmed the key details of Borggrafe’s punishment in a press conference on Friday.

He said: “We have a slight update on the situation, in the sense that the FA has now completed its thorough investigation.

“They sanctioned the player with a six-game ban. That ban has been ongoing whilst we’ve been playing, so effectively she will be out of the running to be included this weekend, but after that she is available for selection.”

Taylor continued: “The situation is the situation. The team and the club have acted in the appropriate way.

“We’ve supported the FA in this investigation. I will say, it’s been dragged on a little bit.

“I think that’s been frustrating for everyone involved, particularly Rafa.

“But we’re happy now that it’s completed, we’re happy now that we have some actual detail on what it looks like, and all of us can now move on.”

It is understood that no further details will be made public on player welfare grounds.

Borggrafe joined Liverpool on a free transfer from SC Freiburg last summer.
