The American had beaten the odds of a , to take part on the slopes.

Things had looked promising for Vonn after she successfully completed two training runs with knee padding.

But when push came to shove, the 41-year-old’s dream of victory turned into a nightmare.

after clipping a post just seconds into her medal charge.

Vonn was attended to by medics, but was then put onto a stretcher and airlifted off the mountain by a helicopter.

Now, the US Ski & Snowboard Team has released a statement providing an eagerly-anticipated update on Vonn’s health.

The brief note revealed that she is in a “stable condition” in hospital, while being treated by a mix of local and American doctors.

The statement read: “Lindsey Vonn sustained an injury, but is in stable condition and in good hands with a team of American and Italian physicians.”

Meanwhile, Vonn’s sister Karin Kildow said that seeing her sibling airlifted was “not a good sign.”

But thankfully, Vonn’s entire team of medical staff were already in tow after her ACL, meaning she is in the best hands possible.

Sister Karin said: “That was definitely the last thing we wanted to see, it happened so quickly. When that happens, you’re just immediately hoping she’s ok.

“It was scary because when you start to see stretchers being put out, it’s not a good sign.

“She dared greatly and put it all out there. It’s really hard to see but we just hope she’s ok.

“She has all of her surgeons and PT staff and doctors here, so they’ll give us a report and we’ll meet her at whatever hospital she’s at.”

Elsewhere, Sky Sports added that Vonn was airlifted to a local hospital and not a major facility – possibly indicating she is not in need of serious treatment.
