Former Kaduna Senator Shehu Sani has responded to the life imprisonment sentence handed down to the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu.

In a post on his verified X account on Friday, Sani stated that life imprisonment is merely a phase and not the conclusion of one's existence.

According to DAILY POST, the Federal High Court in Abuja, under the authority of Justice James Omotosho, convicted Kanu on Thursday on seven charges of terrorism.

The judge subsequently sentenced him to life imprisonment on five counts, 20 years for one count, and five years for another, with all sentences to be served concurrently.

In his reaction, the former lawmaker remarked, “Sentencing a person to life imprisonment does not signify the end of their life. Many of us have endured life imprisonment and emerged resilient.

“I personally experienced my own life imprisonment in Aba Prisons, Abia State, after spending a year in Kiri Kiri and Port Harcourt prisons. The inmates and warders treated me well, apart from a few difficult individuals.

“There remains an opportunity for dialogue to address the situation in the interest of peace. Life imprisonment is just a phase and not the conclusion.”
