But just like with Lyndon Arthur – who Rea put friendship aside for last November in defeat – he will show no remorse in the ring.

Rea, 28, said: “You can’t help but like him, can you? His story, he was at a point where he looked like a point of no return for him.

“And yeah, it’s inspirational what he’s done, it’s great to see him back, and he deserves it.

“He’s obviously had some big fights, made some big money for his family, picked up titles, picked up wins along the way and look, I like the guy, he’s a great guy, you can’t not like him.

“But at the end of the day, we’ve got to put that aside for ten rounds and I’ve said it before, I had to do it with Lyndon [Arthur], get on well with Lyndon and you’ve seen there, I didn’t hesitate.

“If if I can knock that person out in front of me, I’m going to do it. And then afterwards, I’ll be filled with guilt, and I’ll tell them I’m sorry and I’ll give him a cuddle and we’ll get a picture!

“It is what it is but that’s just my mentality, and I’m sure he’s the same. As he said, look, he’s not a nice guy in the ring and neither am I.

“I do get on with him, I like the guy, I think he’s a great guy, I love what he’s doing, but he’s in my way.

“And at the end of the day, I need to get him out of my way.”
