AN iconic TV show that’s been off air for nearly two decades is coming back as a rebooted ITV series.

The British detective programme, based on books by Reginald Hill, was much loved in the late 1990s and 2000s.

Fans of Dalziel and Pascoe can look forward to a fresh and contemporary reimagining of their favourite detectives, with filming set to begin in the spring.

Centering on the relationship between seasoned detective Dalziel and newly qualified DS Pascoe, their clashing methods result in a formidable partnership.

Punctuated by humour and a lot of heart, it’s hard not to fall for the dynamic duo as they navigate new cases.

Speaking on the upcoming series, ‘s Head of Scripted Comedy Nana Hughes said: “It’s a genuine privilege to bring Reginald Hill’s much-loved Dalziel and Pascoe back to the screen for a new audience.

“At the heart of this series is the enduring, unexpected chemistry between two very different detectives, and we’re excited to explore that new dynamic.”

Jonathan Fisher, the Managing Director of West Road Pictures, added: “It is a real honour to be reimagining Reginald Hill’s iconic detective series for a contemporary audience.

“We hope that viewers will fall in love with this unlikely yet brilliant pairing all over again.”

The series is set to be split into six parts and will air on ITV and STV upon release.

It shall then be available for streaming on and STV Player.

Dalziel and Pascoe ended in 2007-2008 primarily due to its falling viewership numbers and the ‘s desire to refresh its drama output.

During its premiere, which began in March 1996, the show raked in a whopping 9.76million views.

This equated to a 38 percent consolidated share of TV viewers’ attention at the time.

As the years passed, some fans preferred the earlier series’ to the latter ones. The earlier episodes were directly based on Reginald’s book instead of coming from a script.

Dalziel was played by actor Warren Clarke, otherwise known for his roles in Sleepers, A Respectable Trade, and The Manageress.

He passed away in 2014 following a short battle with pancreatic cancer.

Meanwhile, Pascoe was played by Scottish actor Colin Buchanan.

He also starred in the Agatha Christie film The Pale Horse and Catherine Cookson’s The Secret.
