The Radio 4’s Today Programme host took to her today to share grabs of her Substack story, which she titled, “I had the hysterectomy I never wanted to have.”
She began: “Something curious happened in the last two weeks of filming and wrapping my BBC TV documentary on .
“It got worse. A lot worse. Everything. All of my symptoms. And some I didn’t recognise.”
Emma went on to reveal that she was adamant about not having surgery and wanted to control her condition with natural hormones.
However, she ended up in hospital on the night her documentary aired on .
“I wasn’t actually well enough to watch the whole film go out. I caught the last 10 minutes,” she continued.
“Again another painful irony – raising the slightest and wryest of smiles between my husband and I.
“But I did see the hundreds and hundreds of messages start pouring in from women and their worried partners, parents and siblings.”
Emma explained that she underwent the surgery two days before her documentary aired in June.
“I had undergone a near-5 hour surgery and somehow found myself lying in bed recovering from extensive surgery, a hysterectomy and a gallbladder removal,” she told her followers.
Emma captioned the post: “It’s been quite the few weeks.
“An explanation and an apology to all of you who have been writing to me – especially after my BBC documentary went out about endometriosis.
