The Lagos State Building Control Agency, LASBCA, has confirmed the collapse of a four-storey structure situated on Adu Street in the Aguda, Ogba area of Lagos.
DAILY POST reports that the building, which served both as a residential property and the location of a private school, gave way on Monday, causing panic among residents of the neighbourhood.
Fortunately, no lives were lost, as students, teachers and other occupants had already vacated the premises shortly before the structure collapsed.
In response to the incident, officials of LASBCA, working alongside the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, LASEMA, and other emergency responders, immediately arrived at the location to evaluate the situation and secure the area.
As part of precautionary measures, residents of nearby buildings were advised to temporarily leave their homes while structural integrity checks were carried out on surrounding properties to determine their safety.
According to LASBCA, early observations suggested that certain building activities had been taking place at the property prior to the collapse.
However, the agency noted that a full investigation is currently in progress to establish the exact cause of the incident.
The agency appealed to members of the public to remain calm and cooperate with officials as ongoing technical evaluations and safety procedures continue at the site.
LASBCA also used the opportunity to remind property owners and developers of the need to comply strictly with regulatory requirements and maintain proper communication with building control authorities when undertaking construction, renovation or structural modification projects.
