LaLiga: Xabi Alonso to abandon tactical system at Real Madrid because of Bellingham

Published on May 21, 2025 at 06:34 PM

Incoming Real Madrid manager, Xabi Alonso, will continue using Carlo Ancelotti’s tactics as he tries to get Jude Bellingham back to top form.

Alonso has set up players in a 3-4-3 ever since his first season with Bayern Leverkusen.

However, Madrid fans might have to wait longer to see him use that system at the Bernabeu.

According to Diario AS, the current plan is for Alonso to stick with Ancelotti’s 4-4-2 formation.

It is believed this decision is connected with Bellingham’s dip in in form this season.

Bellingham has managed only nine goals in LaLiga this season, a huge drop from the 19 he netted in his debut season in Spain.

The plan was to play him in a deeper role. But following Alonso’s arrival, Bellingham is now expected to be pushed higher up the pitch on the left of midfield, retaining his original position.

Bellingham himself is expected to undergo surgery after the completion of Club World Cup.
