Real Madrid have asked FIFA and UEFA not to approve a LaLiga fixture between Barcelona and Villarreal in the United States.

The Royal Spanish Football Federation, RFEF, has already given its approval for the game to go ahead.

The match is scheduled to be played in December 2025.

It is part of ideas from LaLiga president Javier Tebas, to take the Spanish league worldwide to globalise the competition and bring in more revenue.

But Madrid have now voiced their firm opposition to the idea.

In a published statement on Tuesday, Madrid claimed the proposal will affect “the competitive balance and granting an undue sporting advantage to the applicant clubs.”

It added that “if this proposal is implemented, its consequences would be so serious that they would mark a turning point for the world of football.”
