The National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, has confirmed that 15 people were killed and over 500 households displaced in coordinated terrorist attacks on three communities in Tangaza Local Government Area of Sokoto State.
The confirmation followed a joint on-the-spot assessment by officials from NEMA and the Sokoto State Emergency Management Agency, SEMA, on Friday.
According to the agencies, the attacks occurred around 2:05 pm on Wednesday and targeted the villages of Kwalajiya, Talba, and Fasnaki. Many residents were reportedly working on their farms when the assault began.
Eyewitnesses said the assailants, believed to be members of the Lakurawa terror group, looted shops and set fire to homes, food stores, and small businesses during the rampage.
“The attack led to the deaths of 15 people and displaced hundreds,”; NEMA stated. “Survivors have taken refuge at Sardaunan Tangaza Model School in Tangaza town, while others fled to Ayama, a nearby settlement.”;
The agency reported that more than 500 households were affected, with large numbers of families abandoning their homes and farmlands out of fear of further violence.
