Traffic on the Chisco route towards Victoria Island came to a halt on Monday due to an accident involving an overturned gas tanker, prompting emergency response efforts and a temporary rerouting of vehicles in the vicinity.

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) confirmed that recovery operations were promptly initiated in collaboration with other emergency services to ensure the safe removal of the tanker and mitigate potential hazards.

The incident, which took place near the Chisco traffic light, resulted in significant delays for drivers heading to Victoria Island, as emergency responders cordoned off the area to prevent secondary accidents and manage traffic flow.

In an official statement, the Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department, Mr. Adebayo Taofiq, mentioned that the operation required a temporary closure of the main carriageway to enable a “safe, swift, and professional recovery” of the tanker.

“Motorists are strongly urged to exercise patience and cooperate with LASTMA officials and other emergency responders present,” he stated.

Taofiq emphasized that all available resources were being utilized to complete the evacuation process as quickly as possible and restore normal traffic movement.

He reassured Lagos residents that the safety of road users remains the state government's top priority, adding that further updates would be shared once the operation was finished and the road was fully reopened to traffic.
