The Lagos State Government, through the Ministry of Waterfront Infrastructure Development, has sealed two relaxation centres as well as 180 other buildings in the Okun-Ajah, Eti-Osa axis of the State.
The relaxation centres, Timeless Beach and Iceland Beach, were sealed for failure to comply with summons over encroachment on State-owned land.
The exercise, which began in the early hours of Monday, was led by the Commissioner for the Ministry, Dayo Alebiosu.
Alebiosu, in a statement signed by Akodu Morenikeji, the ministry’s Director of Public Affairs, disclosed that despite several notices and summons previously issued, the defaulters ignored them, prompting the State Government to initiate strict enforcement measures.
Alebiosu frowned at the encroachers, saying they had wilfully ignored several warnings from the State Government over time.
He said, “This level of disregard for laid-down rules and property ownership cannot be tolerated. The State Government has made efforts to engage the affected parties, but their refusal to comply has left us with no choice.”;
The Commissioner disclosed that the State Government had accommodated and issued E-Survey documents to over 40 offenders who were previously served and had fulfilled all requirements stipulated by law.
