The Lagos State Government has announced a two-day traffic diversion to facilitate movement during the Electric Powerboat Racing Championship E1 Series, Africa’s first electric powerboat race, set to occur on the Victoria Island Lagoon from Friday, October 3, to Sunday, October 5, 2025.

In a statement released by the Ministry of Transportation, the government indicated that there will be a complete road closure at First Lekki Junction heading towards Ozumba Mbadiwe Street, Victoria Island, for the duration of the event.

The ministry provided alternative routes for drivers:

Commuters traveling from Ajah to Lekki are advised to make a U-turn at Lekki First Junction near the pedestrian bridge and connect via Yesufu Abiodun, Maroko Police Station, City of David, Ligali Ayorinde, and Ajose Adeogun to reach Eko Hotel Roundabout, Ahmadu Bello Way, Independence Bridge, and McEwen/Onikan.

Traffic from Ajah towards CMS can divert via Abraham Adesanya to Ogombo Road, Okun Ajah Road, and Coastal Road to connect with Ahmadu Bello Way and Independence Bridge before continuing their journeys.

Motorists traveling from Lekki to Ikoyi/Mainland are encouraged to use Admiralty Way through Lekki Link Bridge to Alexander Road, Bourdillon Way, Gerrard Road, and Osborne Road.

Those heading towards CMS can connect via Yesufu Abiodun, Oniru Road, Aboyade Cole Road, and Ligali Ayorinde to reach Eko Hotel Roundabout.

Traffic from CMS/Independence Bridge and Ozumba Mbadiwe towards the Lekki-Epe Expressway will have a clear passage towards Ajah and surrounding areas.

The government also assured that the Coastal Road will remain accessible throughout the diversion period.
