Kwara State Environmental Protection Agency (KWEPA) has sealed off a residential building in the Agbo-Oba area of Ilorin, the state capital, over illegal disposal of evacuated human excreta mixed with sand along a public roadside, an act deemed hazardous to public health and environmental safety.

A statement by the press secretary of the agency, Aliyu Jamiu Amode in Ilorin on Monday, disclosed that the enforcement operation was carried out by the Agency’s Environmental Task Force, under the leadership of Alhaji Yinusa Jidah, in line with KWEPA’s mandate to ensure a clean, safe, and healthy environment across Kwara state.

Speaking on the operation, the General Manager of KWEPA, Jide Aina, clarified that the action was not intended to intimidate any individual or group, but to correct serious environmental violations and avert potential health risks.

“Our responsibility is to protect the environment and prevent the outbreak of diseases that may arise from such irresponsible practices.

“We urge all residents to adhere strictly to proper waste disposal procedures and ensure their surroundings are kept clean at all times,”; he added.

Aina further reiterated the agency’s commitment to upholding environmental standards, especially in densely populated areas, and called on residents to cooperate with KWEPA by promptly reporting any environmental nuisance within their communities.

KWEPA appealed to the general public to comply with all environmental protection regulations to safeguard public health and promote sustainable living across the state.
