The Commissioner of Police for the Kwara State Command, Adekimi Ojo, has implemented additional security measures to ensure a safe and peaceful festive season during the Christmas and New Year celebrations in the state.

These additional measures were outlined in a statement by the state police command's spokesperson, SP Adetoun Ejire Adeyemi, in Ilorin on Thursday.

According to the spokesperson, “The command has assigned police personnel to key communities, critical infrastructure, markets, places of worship, motor parks, and major public areas across the state.

“Joint surveillance and intelligence-sharing operations are currently underway to maintain vigilance and prevent any security breaches,” the spokesperson revealed.

The command also cautioned that the use, sale, and distribution of fireworks, bangers, and other explosive devices are strictly prohibited.

The statement clarified that these items can cause panic, trigger false alarms, and may be used as a cover for criminal activities, emphasizing that “offenders will be apprehended and prosecuted.”

The spokesperson reaffirmed that the restriction on motorcycles (Okada) and tricycles (Keke Napep) from 9:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. remains in full effect, as this regulation is crucial for reducing nighttime crimes and enhancing community safety.

The command urged the public to remain calm and continue their lawful activities without fear, as it is fully committed to ensuring peace and security for all residents throughout the festive season and beyond.

“Any information pertaining to public safety will be communicated promptly through the official command channels.

“For emergency calls or reports of suspicious activities, please reach out to the Kwara Police Control Room at: 08125275046 or 0703206950,” the spokesperson added.
