A full scale investigation has commenced into Tuesday’s bloody attack on two communities in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State, which claimed over 100 lives.

The investigation is aimed at tracking down the perpetrators and ensuring they face the full weight of the law.

Commissioner of Police, Adekimi Ojo, disclosed this in a statement released by the spokesperson of the state police command, SP Adetoun Ejire Adeyemi, in Ilorin on Thursday.

The command urged residents to remain calm, cooperate with security agents and provide credible information that may help ongoing operations.

‎The command confirmed that the attack on Woro community in Kaiama LGA occurred on February 3, 2026, at about 1730hrs.

‎Following the attack, Governor Abdulrahaman Abdulrazaq, accompanied by the Commissioner of Police, Adekimi Ojo, the Director of the Department of State Services, DSS, Mr Micheal Oganwu, the Brigade Commander, 22 Armoured Brigade, Brig. Gen N.N Rume, and other senior security and top government officials, visited the community on February 4, 2026, for an on-the-spot assessment and to commiserate with the Emir of Kaiama, Alh Muazu Shehu Omar and families affected by the incident.

‎Preliminary findings gathered at the scene indicated that the hoodlums, suspected to be religious extremists, stormed the community, shooting sporadically and killing residents, while houses and shops were set ablaze.

The victim have been given a mass burial.

‎A Joint Security Team comprising the police, military and National Forest Guards have since been deployed and are currently on ground to maintain law and order, prevent further attacks, and reassure residents of their safety.

‎The Commissioner of Police extended his condolences to the families of the victims and the entire Woro community while praying for the repose of the souls of the victims.
