The former Governor of Kano State and leader of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has condemned the killing of at least 12 wedding guests in Plateau State.
The victims, who were from the Basawa community in Zaria Local Government Area of Kaduna State, were attacked in Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau while returning from a wedding on Saturday.
In a post on X on Sunday, Kwankwaso described the incident as a “barbaric mob action.”;
“I am saddened by the barbaric mob action on wedding-goers in Plateau State, which has resulted in the death of at least 12 travelers from Basawa community of Zaria local government area of Kaduna State,”; he wrote.
He said the attack was another sad episode of peaceful travelers losing their lives in the hands of violent elements along transits routes.
He called on both the Plateau State Government and the Federal Government to take urgent action.
“Authorities in Plateau State and the Federal Government must ensure that the perpetrators of this attack are fished out and prosecuted,”; he said.
He also urged traditional, religious, and government stakeholders to help educate the public and discourage mob violence.
“My deepest sympathies go to the bereaved families,”; he added.
Kwankwaso in the post also extended his condolences to those affected by the recent explosion in Kano on Saturday.
“May the Almighty Allah grant them eternal rest,”; he wrote.
Recall that the Kano state police command confirmed the death of five people from a military grade explosive in the state on Saturday at a scrap collection company located at Eastern bypass.
