Following the jailbreak at the Keffi Medium Custodial Centre, Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State has called on citizens in the state to remain vigilant and report any suspicious persons to security agencies.

Sule said the state government desires to partner with relevant authorities in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, to fast-track the prosecution of inmates awaiting trial currently kept at the Keffi Medium Custodial Centre.

The governor made this call on Wednesday when he visited the facility after a reported jailbreak on Tuesday, where 16 inmates reportedly escaped.

Speaking with officials and later inmates at the centre, the governor explained that most of the inmates awaiting trial and kept in the facility were those whose cases were before the courts in the FCT.

While promising that the government would explore means to fast-track the trial of accused persons to reduce congestion in the facility, the governor advised the inmates to be of good behavior and law-abiding.

According to him, many of the inmates were sitting on bare floors, directing a supply of 500 mattresses to the centre to improve the living conditions of the inmates.

Sule equally applauded officers and men of the service, as well as other security agencies, for the re-arrest of some of the escapees.

Recall that 16 inmates escaped from the Medium Security Custodial Centre in the early hours of Tuesday after a breach of the facility’s security.
