The Kebbi State Government has established a high-level committee to investigate recent fire outbreaks in schools across the state and recommend measures to prevent their recurrence.
The decision was announced in a directive from the Office of the Executive Governor and communicated through the Ministry of Innovation and Digital Economy on January 14, 2026.
This was contained in a statement signed by Yahaya Sarki, Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the Kebbi State Governor, on January 15, 2026.
According to the statement, the committee is chaired by the Commissioner for Innovation and Digital Economy, Hon. Ibrahim Muhammad Sakaba.
Other members include the Chairman of SUBEB, Prof. Sulaiman Khalid; the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education; and representatives of the Police, DSS, and State Fire Service.
The Executive Director of the Security Management Agency will serve as secretary.
βThe terms of reference of the committee include investigating the remote and immediate causes of the infernos affecting schools across Kebbi State, assessing the extent of damage and losses recorded, recommending appropriate safety, security and preventive measures, and submitting a comprehensive report with actionable recommendations to the state government,β it stated.
The state government said it remains committed to protecting students, teachers, and school facilities, and assured residents that steps will be taken to prevent future incidents.
