Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris, on Wednesday received the 24 schoolgirls abducted from Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School, Maga. The rescued students are currently at the Kebbi State Government House, where they are being officially handed over to their parents.
The handover ceremony was attended by prominent dignitaries, including former governors Sen. Atiku Bagudu, Sen. Adamu Aliero, and Saidu Nasamu Dakingari, as well as traditional rulers and government officials. Also present was the Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, who formally handed over the rescued students to the governor.
The parents of the rescued girls arrived in Birnin Kebbi, the state capital, on Tuesday, ahead of the reunion ceremony. Speaking on behalf of the parents, Malam Illiyasu Garba expressed gratitude to the governor, security agencies, religious leaders, and community volunteers.
“We were confident that with Governor Idris involved, our children would return safely. Today, we thank Allah that they are back,” he said.
The parents also commended Governor Idris for his coordinated efforts and for demonstrating the state government’s commitment to the safety and well-being of residents, ensuring that the students were returned unharmed after their traumatic ordeal.
