The Kebbi State Government held an interfaith prayer session on Saturday in Birnin Kebbi, seeking divine assistance regarding the increasing security challenges both in the state and nationwide.
Governor Nasir Idris addressed the attendees, stating that the session was intended to promote unity between Muslims and Christians while advocating for enduring peace.
“No state can claim to be completely peaceful. The topic of security should not be politicized. Those who assert that Kebbi or Nigeria lacks peace, or that there is no harmonious relationship between Muslims and Christians, are merely spreading misinformation,” he remarked.
He emphasized that Kebbi has experienced relative peace in comparison to other states, but highlighted the importance of ongoing prayers to maintain this harmony.
The event, organized by the Ministry of Religious Affairs, gathered Muslim and Christian leaders from all 21 local government areas of the state to pray against banditry, kidnapping, and various other forms of insecurity.
Notable attendees included the Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Senator Atiku Bagudu; APC National Organising Secretary, Sulaiman Argungu; former Chief Judge of Kebbi State, Justice Bala Mairiga; Chairman of the State Council of Ulama, Abubakar Riba; Chairman of the Preaching Board, Umar Malisa; and Vice Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in the state, Femi Orofin.
The clerics offered prayers for peace, stability, and the safety of communities affected by insecurity.
