Members of the House of Representatives have requested the renaming of Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School, Maga, in Danko/Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi State after the slain Vice Principal, Hassan Yakubu Makuku.
The request was made on Monday during a sympathy visit to Governor Nasir Idris by a delegation of lawmakers led by the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas.
In a statement issued by the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the Governor, Yahaya Sarki, the Speaker described the late Vice Principal as a hero who died in active service while attempting to protect students during the attack on the school. He urged the governor to immortalise him, including renaming the school in his honour.
Governor Nasir Idris, while responding to the request, immediately approved the renaming of the school after the deceased Vice Principal, acknowledging his bravery and sacrifice.
The visit comes after bandits attacked Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School, Maga, in the early hour of Monday November 17, killing Vice Principal Hassan Yakubu Makuku and abducting 25 female students.
