Police operatives in Katsina State have successfully rescued five kidnapped passengers following a gunfight with armed bandits along the Funtua-Gusau road in Faskari Local Government Area.

The spokesperson for the command, ASP Abubakar Aliyu, disclosed the development on Tuesday, stating that the victims — two drivers and three passengers — were abducted on Monday night at Unguwar-Basau while traveling in a Hummer bus and a white Mendez truck.

According to Aliyu, the distress call was received at 9:37 p.m. on May 19, prompting the swift deployment of an Armoured Personnel Carrier (APC) patrol team. The team engaged the attackers in a heated exchange of gunfire and overpowered them through superior tactics and firepower.

“All five victims were rescued alive,”;; Aliyu confirmed, adding that four sustained injuries and were promptly taken to Sheme Primary Health Centre, where they are currently receiving treatment and responding well.

Commissioner of Police, Bello Shehu, lauded the bravery and professionalism of the responding officers and urged continued vigilance in the battle against banditry across the state.
