Tertiary educational institutions owned by the Katsina State Government has suspended its two-week warning strike.
The Chairman of the Joint Consultative Forum, Dr. Muhammad Nasir-Gidado made the disclosure in a statement issued in Katsina on Saturday.

The statement, according to the News Agency of Nigeria, noted that the strike was declared by the forum on January 12, 2026, following what it called government’s refusal to address its demands.

Nasir-Gidado explained that the demands included the non-approval and non-implementation of 35 per cent and 25 per cent salary increments for staff of the affected institutions.

He added that the forum also asked for the immediate implementation of proper placement for Consolidated Tertiary Institutions Salary Structure (CONTISS 15) non-migrated staff.

It stressed the need for unsympathetic increase in students’ registration fees without consideration of the current economic situation which lowers students’ enrollment among others.

Following the intervention of relevant key stakeholders and concerned indigenes of the state, the forum wishes to announce the suspension of this warning strike.

According to him, “It was agreed that negotiations will commence immediately with the government to resolve all the lingering issues.”

He said that in view of the above, they are calling on all their respected members to resume their primary assignments with the usual dedication and commitment to duty with immediate effect.

It stated that the affected institutions are Hassan Usman Katsina Polytechnic, Isa Kaita College of Education, Dutsin-ma, and Yusuf Bala Usman College of Education and Legal Studies, Daura.

Others are College of Nursing Sciences (Katsina and Malumfashi campuses), College of Health Science and Technology (Daura/Kankia campuses), and Institute of Technology and Management.

Appreciating the affected parents and students, he assured of the forum’s determination to pursue the demands vigorously.
