Kano: Yusuf seeks Assembly approval to pay experts for recovery of oil revenue deductions

Published on May 12, 2025 at 02:11 PM

Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has sent a letter to the State House of Assembly requesting approval to deduct a portion of the state’s funds to pay experts who will help state governors recover outstanding oil revenue deductions from the federal government, spanning a period of 25 years.

During today’s plenary, the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Jibril Isma’il Falgore, read the letter, noting that Governor Abba had made a similar request in the past to begin the process of recovering the funds.

Giving further clarification, the House Majority Leader, Lawan Hussaini Dala, explained that the Nigerian Governors’ Forum initiated the move and sought the approval of all state assemblies to enable professionals to begin the recovery process.

Dala stated that the experts’ fees would be deducted from the recovered funds.

According to him, if the recovery is successful, the funds would significantly boost development in Kano by supporting healthcare, education, water supply, and other key infrastructure projects.

The assembly approved the governor’s request, stating that the move would accelerate the state’s development.
