Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria (MAAUN) in Kano State has shut down two privately-run female hostels in the Hotoro and UDB Road areas of Kano, the state capital.
Announcing the immediate closure of hostels, the university, in a statement issued by the institution’s Vice President of Campus Life, Dr Hamza Garba, on Monday, May 12, stated the hostels were shut over safety and disciplinary issues.
The university management explained that the closure involved the withdrawal of official recognition previously granted to the hostels.
“The hostels were found to be in violation of institutional policies governing student housing, with multiple breaches reported.
“The measure was part of the university’s broader commitment to maintaining a secure and morally responsible living environment for students,”;; the statement said.
The management further directed students currently residing in the affected hostels to vacate the premises immediately after completing their semester examinations.
The statement added that the school management is working closely with relevant security agencies to ensure total compliance with the directive.
