Two former local government chairmen in Kano, Abubakar Abdullahi Likita and Mahmoud Sani Madakin Gini, died on the same day in separate tragic incidents.
Abubakar Abdullahi Likita, former chairman of Wudil Local Government Area, collapsed and died during the funeral prayer of his close friend, Mahmoud Sani Madakin Gini, the former chairman of Dala Local Government.
Madakin Gini had earlier died in a car accident along the Kaduna-Abuja highway.
Eyewitnesses said Likita slumped during the prayer, just a few meters from the coffin of his late friend. He was confirmed dead shortly after.
“It was a double blow. We came to pay our last respects to one leader and ended up losing another before our eyes,”; one mourner said.
Sources said Likita arrived at the funeral with Dr. Nasir Yusuf Gawuna, former Kano State Deputy Governor and APC governorship candidate in the 2023 election.
Likita’s own Janazah prayer will be held on Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. at his residence in the Bompai area of Kano.
