The Kano government has denied diverting N6.5 billion from the state’s treasury, describing the claims as a sponsored smear campaign by the opposition to undermine the administration of Governor Abba Yusuf.

This comes in the wake of the claims against the Director General of Protocol, Kano Government House, Abdullahi Rogo, who is at the centre of financial misappropriation matter at the High Court.

A statement by the Director General of Media and Publicity, Sanusi Tofa, said the allegations were politically motivated.

“The allegations being peddled are nothing more than a work of fiction, carefully crafted by political opponents who have resorted to blackmail and propaganda in their desperation to remain relevant ahead of the 2027 elections,” he said.

According to him, Rogo is not an independent spending office but rather an administrative unit operating under budgetary approvals.

Tofa also alleged that the opposition was running a coordinated online campaign to malign key officials of the state.

The spokesman, while drawing comparisons with the previous government, pointed fingers at former Governor Abdullahi Ganduje, accusing him of reckless spending and corruption.

He added that the people of Kano had not forgotten the “dollar-video scandal” involving the ex-governor, as well as allegations of land grabbing and foreign property acquisitions linked to the former first family.
