June 12: Democracy is about delivering tangible dividends to masses – Gov Bala Mohammed

Published on June 11, 2025 at 08:49 PM

Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State has said that democracy must be measured by the well-being of citizens, not merely by the conduct of elections, as Nigeria marks 26 years of democratic rule.

In his Democracy Day message released on Wednesday through his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mukhtar Gidado, the governor stressed that for democracy to be meaningful, it must translate into real improvements in the lives of the people.

“Democracy is not just about elections, but about delivering tangible dividends that uplift the lives of the people. As we celebrate Democracy Day, let us reflect on how far we’ve come and recommit ourselves to building a just, united, and prosperous society,”; he said.

Governor Mohammed stated that his administration has made significant progress across various sectors in Bauchi State, attributing these achievements to purposeful leadership and people-oriented policies.

He used the occasion to call on leaders across the country to embrace accountability and focus on policies that drive inclusive development and social justice.

The governor also paid tribute to pro-democracy heroes who laid the foundation for Nigeria’s current democratic dispensation. He urged citizens to uphold their legacy by defending democratic ideals.
