JOHN TERRY is auctioning the kit he wore for his notorious penalty slip in the 2008 Champions League Final against Manchester United.

It is just one of 25 items from the legendary ex- defender going up for auction on Wednesday, with proceeds set to go towards a charitable cause.

That particular item has a starting price of $5,000 and carries with it some difficult memories for the 45-year-old.

Terry was called upon to take the decisive penalty in the 2008 Final after ‘s miss left on the edge of defeat.

But Terry slipped as he struck the ball, which cannoned off the right post and away from goal in Moscow.

Terry has since opened up on the hefty toll the moment took on him, and admitted that he even following the loss.

But now he is channelling his heartbreak towards a good cause as he looks to move on some of his old memorabilia in the £120,000 auction.

The proceeds of the auction will go towards the Foundation, which supports a variety of charities around the country.

Terry said: “My foundation is going to benefit with two very close top my heart foundations that are in desperate need of the money.

“It’s going to a great cause, so all the support is going to be welcome.”

As well as the infamous shirt, the former icon is also auctioning the strip that he wore when he lifted the 2011/12 Champions League Trophy in full kit, despite having been suspended for the match itself.

Other iconic shirts include those from the last games of his career and his career overall, listed at $1,000 (£740).

But the marquee item of Terry’s is his Premier League winners medal from the 2004/05 season, the first modern Prem title for himself and the club, valued at $100,000 (£74,000) alone.

He is also flogging shirts given to him by legends of the game including a United kit signed by Ronaldo, a kit and kits worn and signed by and .

Terry is selling the items in partnership with Goldin Auctions, an auctioneer that specialises in sports and entertainment memorabilia.

The auction will go live in the early hours of Wednesday morning.
