Former US President, Joe Biden, has claimed the Donald Trump administration is doing “modern-day appeasement”; as it deals with Russia’s Vladimir Putin.
He has now claimed the transatlantic alliance that has prevented a world war for 80 years is at risk.
Biden made these remarks in his first interview since leaving office in January.
He told BBC Radio 4’s ‘Today’ programme: “I just don’t understand how people think that if we allow a dictator, a thug, to decide he’s going to take significant portions of land that aren’t his and that’s gonna satisfy him, I don’t quite understand.
“It is modern-day appeasement.
“What this man wants to do is re-establish the Warsaw Pact â he can’t stand the fact that the Russian dictatorship that he runs, that the Soviet Union has collapsed.
“And anybody that thinks he’s just gonna stop is foolish.”;
Biden was speaking to mark the 80th anniversary of VE Day, which marks the Allied victory in Europe at the end of World War II and argued that NATO had successfully kept Europe and the wider world safe since then.
