And Gabriel, who has been in the final days of the summer transfer window, put in a stunning performance.

The striker found the net with a sensational lob over Ipswich goalkeeper Woody Williamson.

Gabriel also notched two assists as United boss Michael Carrick watched from the stands just days after a .

He found Victor Musa inside three minutes and repeated the feat with a lay-off for Jaydan Kamason.

Gabriel’s incredible rise to the U21s came after making his senior bow in the pre-season friendly earlier this month.

The teenage sensation came off the bench having spent the summer preparing for the new campaign with Old Trafford’s biggest names.

But strict Premier League mean Gabriel will be blocked from getting dressed in the first-team dressing room if he is rewarded with his first competitive outing.

The prodigy was forced to get his kit on separately before being handed game time against Atletico.

And Gabriel will find himself in a similar situation if Carrick, who to become United’s permanent boss in the summer, comes calling.

The England U17s talisman earned rave reviews behind the scenes when training with the first-team on a number of occasions last term.

And Marcus Rashford has been as he looks to edge closer to his first-team debut.

United U21s chief Adam Lawrence did not include the likes of Dan Gore or Diego Leon in the matchday squad against Ipswich.

Toby Collyer was also overlooked as the Red Devils in the final days of the transfer window.
