A LEGENDARY racehorse dubbed the ‘shining star of losers’ after never winning one of her 113 races has died surrounded by loved ones aged 29.
Haru Urara was a phenomenon in Japan and became a symbol of perseverance for her never-give-up attitude.


While it didn’t result in a single victory over her eight-year career, she still won an army of fans who have been left heartbroken by her death.
According to reports, she fell unwell on Monday and her situation worsened overnight.
She passed away from colic yesterday surrounded by staff workers at the yard where she enjoyed her retirement.
Haru Urara’s popularity was such she became a key figure in the anime game Umamusume: Pretty Derby.
The creators of the game wrote on X: “It is with heavy hearts that we share that Haru Urara passed away on September 9.
“The legendary racehorse’s legacy serves as the inspiration for the character of the same name in Umamusume: Pretty Derby.
“We share our condolences to all the staff involved in Haru Urara’s care.”
Yuko Miyahara, one of the horse’s caretakers at Martha’s Farm in Chiba Prefecture, Japan, said: “Recently, more and more people, not only from Japan but also from overseas, have been coming to see Haru Urara.
“It’s truly unfortunate.”
