JAMES May had fans in stitches when he hilariously FAILED his driving test – 46 years after he got his license.

The TV star, 63, who has made a career out of car shows like and , passed the exam back in 1980.

However, in a clip shared on his channel, revealed that he was taking the driving test again to see if he could pass once more..

The star stated that he did have a license, but wanted to see if he could pass again – over four decades since he last did.

However, after taking the test, the driving examiner revealed he had failed because of two faults – and both were for speeding.

Upon finding out that he had failed, James just exclaimed: “B*****s!”

The examiner then told him he “needed to slow down”.

Being told to “be slower” whilst driving is in stark contrast to the nickname given to James by his Top Gear and Grand Tour co-stars , 56, and , 66.

Whilst working with them, he was known as “Captain Slow” due to his careful driving style.

Fans loved the irony of this in the video, with one saying: “Captain Slow failing his driving test for speeding is the most ironic thing I’ve seen in a while hahaha!”

Another laughed: “Captain Slow fails his driving test for speeding. Outstanding.”

Despite his nickname, James was still often involved in many stunts on his car shows.

But previously speaking about calling time on the more daring aspects of his TV career, James told GB News : “I won’t really miss the stress of it because I’m old now and a bit frail compared with back then [when we started].”

“In the end, we got to the point where we said, ‘No, we must stop whilst we’re still vaguely ahead.

“We mustn’t keep going until we embarrass ourselves.

“I’ve always said if it ends tomorrow, which it nearly did at one point, that I should just be grateful that I had the opportunity.

“I could always have gone back to some sort of proper life and done something responsible and sensible.”

James , including suffering a severe concussion, nearly drowning, breaking his arm and multiple ribs.
