The pair collided in a tense , which saw narrowly win 4-3.
But things could have been very different had not missed a key shot at the death to clinch glory himself.
The ace made a pig’s ear of a simple red pot in the deciding frame.
Jones could not guide the ball into the corner of the table.
And it instead mockingly bounced between the felt over the open hole.
The lacklustre effort clearly infuriated Jones though.
As he made his away off the table, he whacked the bottom of his cue against the wood.
And it prompted a stark remark from the match commentator on TNT Sports.
He said: “He (Jones) is enraged by that. He was annoyed about the split.
“He mercifully didn’t whack the table with his hand, but he did show his disappointment and anger.”
Robertson now faces Barry Hawkins in the Welsh Open quarters on Friday afternoon.
A whopping £100,000 jackpot is on the line.
And Friday’s evening session sees a tasty clash between John Higgins and Zhou Yuelong.
