A POPULAR ITV drama has been axed after just two series – despite positive reviews.

After the Flood starred Sophie Rundle as PC Joanna Marshall, who becomes obsessed with trying to find out what happened to a man who was found dead in a lift in the aftermath of a flood.

The unidentified man was discovered in the lift of an underground car part, and the police assumed he became trapped during the devastating flood, but the PC was determined to find out the real story.

The cast also included Philip Glenister as property developer Jack Radcliffe and Lorraine Ashbourne as Jo’s mother, Molly.

The show originally aired in January 2024, before a second series hit screens in January this year.

But TV Zone has revealed After the Flood will not be returning for a third instalment.

An spokesperson told the outlet: “We’re very proud of After The Flood and what the drama achieved across two series.

“Commissioning decisions involve many factors and while there are no plans for a third series, we’re very grateful to everyone who supported the drama.

“We’d like to extend our thanks to Mick Ford, Azhur Saleem, the actors and the team at Quay Street Productions for producing two brilliant series.”

The second series saw Jo promoted to detective, where she then had to investigate a dead body found in bizarre circumstances.

When the show was first released, it received four out of five stars from The Guardian, which praised the quality of the characters and the weaving in of global warming.

Meanwhile The Independent awarded the series a respectable three out of five stars.

After the Flood is available on ITVX.
