Former Kaduna Central senator, Shehu Sani, on Friday said supporters of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, in the United States, US, are the sponsors of Christian genocide claims in Nigeria.

Sani said the group is promoting the allegations to achieve their selfish aims.

The former lawmaker, who posted on X, faulted the decision of the Nigerian government to pay US lobbyists $9 million to counter the genocide claims.

He wrote: “These are the facts of the two sides that can’t be disputed: Firstly, secessionist IPOB supporters in the US are those who concocted, promoted, sponsored and hawked the issue of ‘Christian genocide’ with the aim of achieving their own goals.

“Secondly, the FG reportedly spent $9 million tax payers money to a lobby group in the US in order to counter the plot.

“The result is that we remain a ‘country of particular concern’ but working in partnership with the US to combat the terrorists.”
