WITH spring cleaning season in full swing, many people are using it as a chance to refresh their interiors.
Indeed, May is the perfect time for redecorating as sunny spells and less humidity make it ideal for painting and other home improvement projects.

One of the most popular trends is transforming bathrooms into sophisticated and stylish spaces on a budget and with minimal effort.
But with one in eight Brits stating they think it’s acceptable to carpet a bathroom, Sam Tamlyn, home expert atShutterly Fabulous, has revealed the rules you must follow to achieve a modern but hygienic bathroom.
First up, the interiors expert said you should always avoid carpets in the loo and opt for tiles or waterproof flooring instead.
He says: “Carpeting in the bathroom is an absolute no-no, yet shockingly, 1 in 8 Britons say it is okay to carpet a bathroom.
“Not only do carpets retain moisture, leading to mould and mildew, but they also make the space look significantly dated and less hygienic.
“Therefore, you should choose tiles or waterproof flooring that is incredibly easy to clean and maintain.”;
Sam has also urged anybody giving their bathroom a makeover to opt for closed storage solutions instead of having items sitting out.
“While open storage might seem like a good idea for easy access, it often leads to clutter and a disorganised look”;, he argues.
“Closed cabinets and drawers help keep your bathroom tidy and give it a sleek, streamlined appearance.”;
Turning to the window area of your loo, Sam says it’s important to avhieve a “light, airy look”;.
As a result, he insists you must not hang heavy curtains or drapery.
He says: “Heavy curtains can make your bathroom feel dark and cramped, absorbing moisture, leading to mould growth and causing many unnecessary problems.
“So, pick light, airy window treatments like blinds or shutters that allow natural light to flow in while maintaining privacy.”;
The interiors expert went on to reveal that all-black matte decor is on the way out â being replaced by brighter, and more timeless finishings.
So making small tweaks to these features could give your bathroom a revamp on a budget.
Sam says: “A few years ago, all-black matte fixtures were considered a bold statement, but they are now less popular.

“Current trends are leaning towards brighter finishes, such as nickel, chrome, and gold that offer more versatility and timelessness.
“All-black fixtures require more maintenance and can be challenging to coordinate with the rest of the bathroom décor.”;
Finally, Sam said if you’re going to have plants in your bathroom, you can’t fake it.
“Fake plants might seem like a low-maintenance option, but they can collect dust and look tacky over time”;, he insists.
“Instead, opt for real plants that thrive in humid environments, such as peace lilies and snake plants, to add a touch of nature and freshness to your bathroom.”;
The interiors pro concludes: “By making a few simple tweaks and changes in your bathroom, you can instantly modernise it, transforming it into an elegant and practical sanctuary while ensuring cleanliness and hygiene.
“It’s interesting how quickly trends and tastes change â only a few years ago, all-black fixtures were in, whereas today, Brits want lighter, brighter, and more natural colours in their bathrooms, seeing a shift towards warmer, more earthy neutrals.”;
