Inter Milan reveal they paid just £6.7m on loan transfer for Romelu Lukaku, a year after Chelsea spent £97.5m on striker

INTER MILAN chiefs have confirmed that they paid just £6.7million to sign Romelu Lukaku on a season-long loan from Chelsea.

Lukaku, 29, initially left Inter to join Chelsea in a sensational £97.5m transfer in 2021.

Inter signed Lukaku on loan for just £6.7m

However, following an underwhelming season at Stamford Bridge he returned to Italy during the summer transfer window.

Inter chiefs have since revealed that they managed to sign the Belgium international on loan for just £6.7m – a fraction of the amount they received from Chelsea less than 12 months prior.

And according to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, a loan deal for the 2023-24 season is already on the cards.

Lukaku is understood to be eager to remain at the San Siro for the foreseeable future, while both clubs are keen to extend the loan.

The striker has endured a slow start to his spell with Inter Milan due to a hamstring injury.

He has made just four appearances across all competitions so far, scoring twice.

But, he returned to action on Wednesday night as Simone Inzaghi’s side earned a 4-0 win over Viktoria Plzen to secure a place in the Champions League knockout stages – eliminating La Liga giants Barcelona in the process.

While Inter Milan are flying high in the Champions League, they are somewhat struggling in the Serie A.
