The Aare Ona Kakanfo of Yorubaland, Gani Adams, has issued a warning that armed groups have penetrated several communities in the South-West, with plans to execute coordinated attacks.

Adams made this statement during an interview with Central TV at his residence in Lagos, where he indicated that intelligence at his disposal points to a growing and imminent threat.

“We are at a juncture where the security situation in this country has become exceedingly concerning. Recent events across multiple states clearly indicate that Nigeria is facing a significant security challenge.

“Reliable information available to us suggests that terrorists have already infiltrated numerous communities in Yorubaland,” he stated.

He further noted that developments in neighboring Kogi and Kwara states, which he referred to as “buffer zones” to the South-West, indicate that armed groups are testing their strategies in preparation for larger assaults.

“What they are doing in Kogi and Kwara is merely testing the landscape before launching major attacks. The intelligence we possess shows that they are specifically targeting Oyo, Ekiti, Ondo, and even Lagos State,” he claimed.

When asked to name the groups involved, Adams attributed the threats to various armed factions operating in northern Nigeria, asserting that his claims are based on information obtained from undisclosed sources.

“These are the same groups responsible for daily assaults in different regions of the country. Sometimes they are referred to as bandits, and other times as violent herdsmen.

“Moreover, we know that international terrorist organizations such as ISIS, ISWAP, and Boko Haram also operate within Nigeria. There are also splinter groups that have separated from them,” he stated.

He asserted that foreign elements are involved in coordinating some of the alleged activities.

“I can confidently say that some foreigners are orchestrating this. It is not confined to Nigerians alone,” he emphasized.

Adams explained that the motivations behind the violence vary among groups, driven by political, economic, and ethnic objectives.
