The National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Felix Morka, stated that it is challenging for Nigerian troops to apprehend bandits and terrorists who are abducting citizens.
Morka made this statement on Tuesday during an interview on The Morning Brief, a program on Channels Television that was monitored by DAILY POST.
He was addressing the ongoing wave of insecurity affecting the country, where individuals, including women and schoolchildren, are being kidnapped.
“I am not a law enforcement expert, but I can imagine that when individuals committing these crimes retreat into the depths of the forests, it is not an easy task for the army to simply capture them.
“I don’t believe this is a topic we should overly comment on. The efforts we are discussing are currently in progress. When they yield results, even when arrests occur, these matters are often not immediately subject to media scrutiny.
“This is because individuals arrested in these situations need to be processed, identified, and interrogated. Some of these procedures take time. Common criminals can sometimes take days, if not weeks, to yield results. Therefore, I think we need to exercise patience.
“The encouraging news is that in some of these situations, thankfully, we are successfully bringing some of the victims back home. The President has issued a directive to security forces to ensure that everyone caught in this web of unjustifiable crime and criminality is returned safely,” he said.
