The Kontagora Emirate Council in Niger State has resolved to hold an emergency stakeholders summit aimed at tackling the incessant security challenges in the area.
The summit, convened by the Speaker of the Niger State House of Assembly, Abdulamlik Sarkindaji, is expected to come up with workable solutions to the banditry attacks on various communities in all the local governments under the Emirate, which include Mariga, Magama, Rijau, Wushishi and Mashegun.
The frequent attacks from gunmen suspected to be herdsmen have made life miserable for the people, especially farmers who were forced to abandon their farms and ancestral homes.
The armed bandits recently lunched attacks on two military camps at Gulbin Boka and Kwanan Dutse in Mariga LGA, during which 20 soldiers lost their lives.

He explained, “This situation must be confronted so that our people, especially farmers can enjoy some level of peace. The esteemed sons and daughters of Kontagora Emirate cannot fold their hands and allow these animals, disguising as human beings, kill our people, our security agents and make lives meaningless for the entire population.”;
Sarkindaji noted that the meeting scheduled to hold on Saturday, July 5th at the Emir of Kontagora’s Palace, will serve as a platform for the people to come together, share insights and collaborate on strategies to adopt in order to combat the security challenges.
The statement acknowledged the efforts of the state government towards addressing the challenge with a number of strategies adopted by the governor, Umaru Mohammed Bago in the last two years.
The speaker further disclosed that the summit will have in attendance all former and present senators, all former and present members of the House of Representatives, all present State House of Assembly members, among others.
