Kebbi University Closes Its Doors Amid Security Concerns: Students Given One-Hour Evacuation Notice

The management of Abdullahi Fodio University of Science and Technology, Aliero, Kebbi State, has declared an immediate halt to all academic activities, instructing all staff and students to clear the campus promptly.

This directive was communicated in an internal memo from the Office of the Registrar and Secretary to the Council. The notice, signed by Registrar Maimaro Alhaji Tilli, indicated that the closure is effective immediately and applies to all types of students, including those in postgraduate, undergraduate, diploma, remedial, and IJMB programs.

Students were ordered to vacate the school premises within one hour of the announcement, and the university's Security Division has been empowered to remove anyone found in hostels or other restricted areas afterward.

The university also recommended that off-campus students residing in nearby locations, such as Gidan Rami, leave their homes to prevent what it referred to as potential “embarrassment” by security personnel enforcing the closure.

While the memo did not specify the reason for this decision, sources within the institution have connected it to increasing security concerns affecting educational establishments across northern Nigeria.

The university announced that the closure will remain in effect until further notice.
