The Ekiti State Government has encouraged residents to conduct their lawful activities without fear of harassment or intimidation, assuring them that the government is fully in control of the security situation in the state.

The Special Adviser to the Governor on Security Matters, Brig. Gen. Ebenezer Ogundana (retd.), made this statement in Ado-Ekiti on Monday during the quarterly security meeting that included heads of security agencies, as well as chairpersons of the 16 local government councils and 22 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs). He urged residents not to panic over reports of banditry in neighboring states, emphasizing that Governor Biodun Oyebanji is fully managing the security situation in Ekiti.

General Ogundana stated that Ekiti remains one of the safest states in the country, attributing this to proactive government strategies and the dedication of security agencies stationed in border communities.

He praised residents for their cooperation and for consistently providing intelligence that has enabled security personnel to address emerging threats effectively.

He reiterated that Ekiti’s borders are well protected through a strengthened presence of the military, police, and intelligence services, adding that the state’s surveillance network is “robust, coordinated, and capable of detecting suspicious activities.”

Regarding recent reports of banditry in neighboring states, the security adviser mentioned that the government had taken prompt action, meeting with traditional rulers, community leaders, and other stakeholders to assess threats and refine strategies.

“We have been monitoring some unusual activities around states bordering Ekiti, particularly Kogi and Kwara, which has raised concerns among our residents,” he noted. “The governor instructed us to engage with all stakeholders to review the situation and reassure our communities.”

He indicated that the engagement with local government chairpersons was intended to enhance local-level response mechanisms and ensure a cohesive approach to community safety.

Ogundana urged residents to remain vigilant and to promptly report any suspicious movements or information to the nearest security agency, rather than trying to verify it themselves.

“We have ample resources to validate any information. The situations in Kogi and Kwara are impacting farmers, herders, and entire communities. We do not want such incidents to spill into our state, which is why the government is taking every possible measure to keep Ekiti safe,” he added.
