Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano has cautioned against politicizing the issue of insecurity in Nigeria, as the state gathered to pray and recite the Quran in response to the recent encroachment by armed bandits.
The Governor emphasized that insecurity transcends politics and party affiliations, urging everyone, regardless of their political leanings, to unite in the fight against the scourge of banditry.
The prayer session and Quran recitation brought together 4,444 memorizers of the Holy Book at the Government House, along with the 16th Fulani Emir Muhammadu II and other distinguished dignitaries.
Governor Yusuf stressed that insecurity and other forms of criminality should not be politicized, highlighting that every political affiliation should be committed to combating insecurity and ensuring peace in their domains.
He stated, “We want to see everyone join hands to fight this menace and liberate Kano.”
Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf explained that his administration has equipped security agencies with the necessary tools to protect Kano, adding that he maintains constant communication with them to address their challenges and needs promptly.
He further urged the people of Kano to remain calm, assuring them that the government, in collaboration with security agencies, is working diligently to ensure the safety of Kano and its surroundings.
He noted that the prayer sessions go beyond financial commitment; they represent an initiative that every sensible person would want to be part of. He assured that his government will collaborate with stakeholders to enhance the city’s greatness.
The 16th Fulani Emir, Muhammadu Sanusi II, remarked during the prayers that the government has taken significant steps to address the issue.
“While visiting the Faruruwa Community in Shanono Local Government, I witnessed the government's efforts in constructing road networks in rural areas, which will facilitate a timely response to distress calls from security forces,” he said.
The Emir urged Governor Yusuf to maintain this momentum by ensuring that Local Governments receive the necessary road projects to enhance connectivity with the state, allowing for easier movement and enabling security forces to reach all areas in need.
He affirmed that the Emirate Council fully supports the government and will continue to provide the necessary assistance to ensure not only their success but also to restore Kano as a center of peace, harmony, and commercial activity.
Numerous reciters and scholars prayed during the event, which drew participants from all 44 local governments across the state.
