King Charles to attend Canada’s state opening of parliament

Published on May 02, 2025 at 05:42 PM

Buckingham Palace announced this on Friday, describing it as a clear demonstration of support for the former British colony, of which the King remains head of state.

According to the Palace, the monarch, accompanied by his wife, Queen Camilla, will visit Canada from 26 to 27 May.

His visit follows his recent acknowledgement that he is also the King of Canada, a nation that United States President Donald Trump has openly expressed interest in.

DAILY POST reports that the visit to Canada will be King Charles’ second overseas trip this year, following his visit to Italy, where he held a private meeting with Pope Francis before the pontiff’s passing.
